Why Zantac was Recalled
Recently the popular drug Ranitidine (sold under the brand name “Zantac”) was removed from the market after years of successful sales and after generating billions of dollars in revenue for the drug maker Sanofi. Zantac was removed from the market after evidence was discovered linking the drug to an increased risk of cancer.
Evidently, consumers of Zantac are at higher risk of developing cancer from exposure to NDMA through consuming Zantac. NDMA is a substance composed of nitrite and dimethylamine. NDMA is a known carcinogen and dangerous for a person to ingest, especially in large quantities.
Human Lab Rats?
When trying to create cancerous tumors in lab rats, Scientists use NDMA to do so. They are 100% successful in using this carcinogen to create cancer. It has no business in a human drug. But Sanofi made billions selling Zantac, containing NDMA, to tens of millions of people for years.
The evidence shows is that when ingested, Zantac produces NDMA that can bind in increased concentrations during exposure to heat through shipping and storage. Consequently, many Zantac users have been unknowingly exposed to dangerously high levels of NDMA. In fact, according to recent lab tests, Zantac may contain thousands of times the acceptable FDA limit of NDMA.
Legal Actions Against Big Drug Companies
Several lawsuits have been filed against the big drug company Sanofi, for their negligence in introducing Zantac to the market without adequate testing. The lawsuits allege that Sanofi knew or should have known that combining nitrite and dimethylamine into one product could result in the formation of hazardous concentrations of NDMA under ordinary conditions (after ingestion, or possibly during shipping and storage).
Plaintiffs who developed cancer, now claim their odds of developing cancer, were dramatically enhanced by using Zantac.
